In its special report on business in America ,The Economist mentioned Burger King coming up with unorthodox advertising campaign on Facebook:
Burger King produced edgy advertisements in the hope that people will pass them around on-line. Earlier this year the company offered Facebook users, a social-networking website, a free Whopper burger if they would dump 10 of their on-line friends. Facebook, of course, soon shut down the promotion, but not before Burger King was able to claim that the public’s love of its flame-grilled product was “stronger than 233,906 friendships”.
It is either Whopper is bloody tasty, doubtful.ly, Burger King is very popular, like.ly, or just Facebook stuff is very slow, most probably. How long did it take them to discover the trend of 200 thousand friends dumped? In any case, Facebook profiles are getting massive these days. It is nice to have another nice excuse to clean them up a bit.
